Built in early centuries, the Old part of Assa, which is known as Ksar Assa, speaks of the great architecture and cultural influence enjoyed by the town since it was founded.The many magnificent monuments, such as the great wall, which surounded the great part of the old part of Assa,and Bouj Ihchach, built mostly before Islamic period under the Berber tribes as the first inhabitants of the area and as a symbole of defence and protection against any invasion of the other tribes.

Within the core of its history and its unique style, successive stages of growth and changes have respected the original grand-scale urban structure of the Early Ages. This structure was essentially and greatly enlarged with urban activities in the High Islamic period with more additions during the High Alaouite Dynasty period. It has been saved from any large-scale urban renewal or massive demolitions and this preserves its overall configuration, pattern and spatial composition.

The city is rich in outstanding monuments from all periods of its history. Of particular importance are Bouj Ihchach Castle, the Zawouit Assa , as a place of education and worship .Inamar Square in the middle of the Castle as a place of local festivals, the green fields on the left bank of the river, the mosque “Timzgueda Oufla “ which was founded by Lahoucine M’barek amghar ,one of the ancient leaders of the town, houses from clay, stones and wood round the Old Town Square,

Zaouit Assa was founded in early centuries of Islam, is one of the earliest in the region.
